TAWAU: Two separate incidents—a road accident and a fire—struck the district in the early hours of Thursday, leaving a woman and a child injured and causing extensive property damage.
In the first incident, a car skidded off the road and crashed into a tree at Jalan Kampung Tanjung Batu Laut. The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 4.24 am, and firefighters from the Tawau station arrived at the scene, located 4 kilometres away, at 4.33 am.
Upon arrival, they discovered two victims had sustained injuries. The department’s Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team provided initial treatment before the victims were sent to Tawau Hospital.
The injured were identified as a 30-year-old woman who suffered a broken leg, and an 8-year-old girl with minor injuries. The operation concluded at 4.49 am. A team of eight firefighters, assisted by police, was involved in the response.
In a separate incident, a seafood shop at Bandar Sri Indah was completely destroyed in a fire. The distress call was received at 7.28 am, and firefighters arrived at the location, 21 kilometres away, at 7.49 am.
To bring the blaze under control, firefighters deployed two 200-foot hose lines and two water jets. The fire was successfully contained by 8.20 am. No casualties were reported in this incident. The operation concluded at 8.41 am.
A total of 15 firefighters were deployed for the operation, with assistance from police and civil defence personnel. Both operations were led by PBK I Jehrey Ibno. – James Leong
