KOTA BELUD: A woman died and her two children were injured after the vehicle she was travelling in collided with a lorry in an accident along Jalan Kota Belud-Tuaran near Taman Nikmat, here, yesterday.
In the 11.05am incident, the victim, Norasida Mayur, 42, was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe injuries after being trapped in the vehicle.
Kota Belud District Police Chief, Superintendent Khairul Shah Peri said, based on initial investigations, the deceased, who was driving a Perodua Alza, was said to be travelling from the direction of Tuaran towards Kota Belud.
He said the victim’s vehicle, which was also carrying her three children aged 15 to 18, was believed to have lost control and entered the opposite lane.
“Another lorry-type vehicle, which was reported to be travelling from the opposite direction, is believed to have failed to avoid the vehicle and collided with the victim’s vehicle.”
“As a result of the incident, the victim was confirmed dead at the scene before her body was sent to the Kota Belud Hospital Forensic Unit for further action,” he said when contacted yesterday.
According to him, two other injured victims were immediately sent to the Kota Belud Hospital for treatment, while another 17-year-old victim was reported not to have suffered any injuries.
“The lorry driver was also not injured and has now been detained to assist in the investigation,” he said.
Khairul Shah said that members of the public who witnessed the incident or have information are asked to come forward and contact the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Kota Belud District Police Headquarters (IPD) to assist in the investigation.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and further investigations are still ongoing. – Fardy Bungga
