SEMPORNA: Police arrested two foreigners and confiscated items used to manufacture fish bombs during a raid on two unnumbered houses in Kampung Hidayat, Pulau Bum Bum here.
The operation, conducted at 11.00 am on June 5, led to the detention of a 25-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman. The police team also seized all items linked to the production of fish bombs.
OCPD Superintendent Tan Hiap Wah confirmed the case and said both suspects will be investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957. If convicted, they face up to seven years in prison, a maximum fine of RM10,000, or both.
The pair is also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for failing to possess valid passes or permits to remain in Malaysia. A conviction under this section carries a fine of up to RM10,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both, in addition to caning of up to six strokes.
Tan expressed gratitude to members of the public who provided information leading to the raid. He urged anyone with knowledge of fish bombing activities to report it to the nearest police station.
