Sandakan MP Service Centre organizes mobile measles-rubella vaccination drive

SANDAKAN: Sandakan Parliamentary Liaison Officer and Sandakan Municipal Councillor Tang Szu Ching joined a mobile Sandakan Health Office vaccination team to Kampung Sim Sim recently, administering measles-rubella (MR) vaccines to vulnerable children in the coastal village.
The initiative, part of Malaysia’s National MR Special Immunization Campaign (SIA), specifically targets children aged 6 to 59 months who have never received MR, MMR or measles vaccines or missed scheduled vaccinations at 6, 9 or 12 months under the National Immunization Programme.
“While most Malaysian children are vaccinated, we’re focusing on those who have yet to receive vaccination – particularly from low-income families facing access barriers,” Tang explained.
The mobile clinic team adopted an innovative door-to-door approach to reach households in the water village. Health workers carried vaccine coolers through the stilt-house community to ensure no eligible child was left unprotected.
“Healthcare workers went the extra mile to bring vaccines directly to homes, ensuring no child is left unprotected due to logistical barriers. We deeply appreciate Sandakan Health Clinic’s dedication to community health.”
The campaign comes as health authorities work to maintain Malaysia’s high immunization rates while addressing pockets of under-vaccination in hard-to-reach areas.
