Polytechnic students are the driving force of Sabah’s progress, says Hazem

SANDAKAN: Students of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions are urged to prepare themselves as high-skilled human capital to support the state’s Sabah Maju Jaya development agenda.
Sungai Manila Assemblyman Hazem Mubarak Musa, stated that the transformation from a student into a competent graduate is the key to meeting the demands of an increasingly challenging modern industry.
“Human capital development is the most crucial investment for the state’s future. We want to produce Sabah’s children who not only possess academic qualifications, but also have high skills, are competent, and are able to compete globally,” he said, echoing the message of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor.
He said this while officiating the Student Transformation Week (MTS) at the Sandakan Polytechnic Sabah (PSS) on Friday.
According to Hazem, the Sandakan Polytechnic plays a strategic role as a ‘factory’ producing young technocrats who will drive the economy, especially in the Sandakan area.
He further emphasised that the employability of TVET graduates is now a greater priority for employers compared to theoretical qualifications alone.
“You are the driving force of our economic transformation. Do not merely wait for opportunities, but create those opportunities through the innovation and skills you acquire here,” he added.
At the event, a total of 144 new students commenced their studies at the Sandakan Polytechnic Sabah.
The Student Transformation Week programme aims to instil leadership spirit, self-identity, and adaptability among students to the dynamic campus culture.
Also present at the event were the polytechnic’s top management, as well as local community leaders. – James Leong
