SANDAKAN: Kolej Vokasional (KV) Sandakan has reaffirmed its commitment to producing highly skilled, industry-ready graduates with the launch of its 2026 Open Day Carnival, held in conjunction with the institution’s 60th anniversary (Diamond Jubilee).
The event showcased the college’s achievements over six decades while highlighting Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a premier education pathway that equips students with practical skills, professional certifications and strong personal values.
Launching the carnival, District Deputy Education Officer (Learning Sector) of the Sandakan District Education Office (PPD), Suhaimi Hj. Othman, said TVET has become increasingly vital in meeting the demands of today’s technology-driven economy by supplying competent and job-ready talent.
He commended KV Sandakan for its comprehensive approach to student development through initiatives such as skills competitions, excellence workshops, leadership and character-building programmes, entrepreneurship activities and professional certification opportunities.
“These initiatives demonstrate the college’s commitment to producing graduates who are not only technically competent but also possess leadership qualities, integrity and a strong sense of identity,” he said.
KV Sandakan Director Kilin Toyou said the institution has spent the past six decades continuously adapting to industry needs while producing graduates who are competitive, ethical and aligned with the nation’s development aspirations.
She said students benefit from high-impact learning through professional seminars, industry-integrated training and competency development programmes that expose them to the latest technological advancements.
“At KV Sandakan, excellence is not measured solely by academic achievement. We place equal emphasis on nurturing students with strong values, character and leadership qualities,” she said.
Beyond technical training, students are encouraged to participate in leadership camps, volunteer programmes, community service initiatives and activities that strengthen their identity and personal development.
Kilin expressed hope that the carnival would further strengthen public confidence in TVET as a first-choice education pathway capable of producing the skilled workforce needed to drive the nation’s future.
