SANDAKAN: Elopura Assemblyman Calvin Chong conducted a follow-up visit to the back of Taman Grandview’s commercial shops (Block A and B) following persistent complaints from residents and traders about unresolved underground water pipe leaks.
The inspection found both blocks affected by the same issue – pipe leaks causing water to overflow onto the road, resulting in constantly wet and slippery surfaces that pose safety risks to motorists and pedestrians.
The situation has also disrupted business operations and caused inconvenience to residents. According to feedback, the problem has persisted for over three months without a proper solution, despite prior complaints to authorities.
Chong has filed an official complaint with the Water Department and urged immediate action. He stressed the need for technicians to be dispatched promptly for a thorough inspection, to identify the root cause, and to carry out permanent repairs rather than temporary remedies.
He also raised the issue of low water pressure, particularly affecting residents on the fourth and fifth floors. Insufficient water pressure has made daily activities such as cooking, bathing, and hygiene maintenance difficult. He called on the Water Department to take proactive steps to stabilise and improve water pressure to ensure consistent supply to all levels.
Chong emphasised that such basic utility issues should not be prolonged. He urged all relevant agencies to improve efficiency in handling public complaints and ensure issues are resolved within a reasonable timeframe.
He remains committed to monitoring the situation and will take necessary follow-up actions until the matter is fully resolved, in line with his ongoing efforts to safeguard the welfare, safety, and well-being of Elopura residents. – James Leong
