SANDAKAN: Efforts to illuminate dark areas in Karamunting have intensified as the Karamunting State Assemblyman office installed 20 solar-powered lights along Jalan Indah- Sibuga bypass.
Karamunting Assemblyman Datuk George Hiew Vun Zin this week stated that the installation aims to enhance the safety of road users and pedestrians in an area previously plagued by poor lighting.
“This road is extremely dark at night, posing safety risks. Therefore, we took the initiative to install solar lights to brighten the area,” he said.
Hiew explained that solar lights were chosen for their cost-effectiveness, independence from electrical grids, and reliability during power outages.
Jalan Indah-Sibuga bypass is a key route frequently used by residents commuting to the town centre. The absence of streetlights had raised concerns, particularly during rainy weather or late at night.
Hiew added that his office has identified several other locations in Karamunting requiring solar lighting and will consider further installations based on community needs and feedback.
“This may be a small but crucial step to light up Karamunting. I hope this initiative brings a greater sense of security to residents and road users,” he said, thanking all parties involved in the project’s success.
The solar lights were completed on April 11.
Meanwhile, anjong Papat State Assemblyman Datuk Frankie Poon and his secretary, Liau Fui Fui, visited a bedridden stroke patient at Jambatan 2, Kampung Sim Sim, on April 14 as part of the “Titipan Kasih” programme to assist the needy.
The initiative aims to provide care and sustained assistance to individuals requiring special attention due to severe health conditions.
During the visit, the patient received a monthly financial aid of RM50 to help cover daily necessities. This support will be disbursed continuously to ease the family’s burden.
The programme is open to bedridden patients or their immediate family members who are registered voters in the Tanjong Papat constituency.
Applications can be submitted through the Tanjong Papat Assemblyman Service Centre.
This effort reflects Poon’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of all Tanjong Papat residents, particularly those facing serious health challenges.
