BELURAN: A total of 15 houses in Kampung Keniogan, Beluran, were severely damaged after being hit by strong winds on Monday.
According to initial reports, no injuries or casualties were recorded. However, the structural damage to residents’ homes was significant, particularly to the roofs and walls.
Among the reported damage were roofs blown off or lifted, zinc roofing and walls damaged, torn plywood wall panels and damaged verandas and toilet zinc roofing.
In addition to residential damage, the government jetty used by local fishermen also sustained damage, with half of its roof blown open.
Kampung Keniogan is a remote fishing village located approximately an hour’s boat ride from Beluran town. Its coastal location and exposure to sea winds are believed to be contributing factors to the extent of the damage.
Authorities are currently assessing the situation and determining the necessary assistance for the affected residents. – James Leong
