Five injured in Tawau motorcycle collision

TAWAU: A collision between two motorcycles along Jalan Utara Baru yesterday left five people injured, including a man in critical condition.
The 6.25 am accident occurred when a Form Three student riding a Honda RS-X 150 to SMK Pasir Putih collided with a Yamaha HVX Scooter carrying a family of four on the way to a religious school.
The 38-year-old Yamaha rider sustained critical injuries in the crash. His 34-year-old wife and their two children, aged 9 and 4, were reported in stable condition. The 15-year-old Honda rider suffered a left wrist injury.
Police have opened an investigation under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving, which carries a fine of between RM5,000 and RM10,000 and liable to jail of up to 12 months, upon conviction.
Acting OCPD Superintendent Champin Piuh has appealed for witnesses to contact investigating officer Sergeant Razlan Razandi at 019-823 4484 to assist with the case. – James Leong
