KINABATANGAN: A fire involving two terrace houses in Taman Permata, Lorong 5 here, was extinguished by Kinabatangan firefighters on Wednesday.
According to Sabah Fire and Rescue Operations Centre, the incident which was reported at 4.32 pm, resulted in no injuries or fatalities.
Firmen responded swiftly and arrived at the scene within six minutes of receiving the emergency call. Operations Commander, PBK I Yus Pinsin, reported that one of the two terrace houses, each measuring 15×25 square feet, was almost 80% destroyed by fire, while the adjacent house sustained approximately 10% damage due to heat exposure.
Firefighting operations were conducted using water supplied from the fire engine’s tank and a nearby Fire Hydrant. The blaze was fully controlled within 40 minutes, and the operation was completed about an hour later after ensuring all risks had been mitigated.
Close cooperation was received from district police and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), who also assisted at the scene. The cause of the fire and the total estimated losses are still under investigation. – James Leong
