SEMPORNA: The District Police arrested a 24-year-old Filipino suspected of stealing a motorcycle at Balimbang Jetty, Bum-Bum Island on Jan 18. The victim’s motorcycle was reported missing after being left parked at the jetty’s vehicle area.
OCPD Superintendent Tan Hiap Wah said the suspect was apprehended together with the reported motorcycle within less than 12 hours after the report was filed. This success was achieved through public cooperation and information.
“I urge the public to always remain vigilant and relay information to the police to ensure community safety. Members of the public with any information related to criminal activities can contact the nearest police station or use the PDRM’s Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application,” Tan said.
In a separate operation on Jan 8, a team from 22nd Battalion General Operations Force Kunak, in collaboration with the Semporna District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division, carried out ‘Op Taring Mitra’ at the The Gardens Kapalai Night Market in Semporna town.
The operation, launched based on public information, led to the arrest of a man found carrying a sack containing seven plastic bottles of liquid suspected to be ketum water.
Further inspection at the suspect’s residence uncovered an additional 15 similar plastic bottles stored in an ice box, bringing the total seizure to 22 bottles of suspected ketum water. The estimated value of the seizure is RM990.
The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, and the suspect has been remanded for further investigation. – James Leong
