TAWAU: The district police here recorded a double success within 24 hours after successfully apprehending two suspects involved in separate cases of housebreaking and the theft of a water-jet machine on June 29.
In the first case, a local male, aged 20, was arrested by officers from the Kalabakan Police Station for alleged involvement in a housebreaking incident in Kampung Rancangan Kalabakan. The arrest came after the victim reported the loss of his mobile phone, which went missing following his dawn prayers. Based on information from the phone’s tracking application—which indicated the device was located in the Felda Kalabakan area—a police team raided the Felda Kalabakan Palm Oil Mill and apprehended the suspect. The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code. The suspect was found to have no prior criminal record.
In the second case, the District Criminal Investigation Division arrested a male foreigner, aged 43, in Kampung Titingan, Jalan Tawau Lama for allegedly stealing a water-jet machine belonging to a housewife. Out of town, the victim spotted the theft on home CCTV, had family confirm the machine was missing, and lodged a police report.
Police arrested the suspect, seized a T-shirt and track pants linked to the case, and found he did not possess valid travel documents. He is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, and has no prior criminal record.
Acting OCPD Superintendent Wilynton Enchana Watt, stated that the success in resolving both cases within a short period demonstrates the efficiency and swift action of the police personnel on the ground.
“The public is advised to always enhance residential security by ensuring that doors and windows are closed and locked,” he said.
He also urged the public to immediately channel any information to the police if they detect any suspicious criminal activities. – James Leong
