HONG KONG: District 308-A2’s commitment to humanitarian service has received global recognition after Dato’ Winnie Lee Siew Ping, Immediate Past District Governor of Lions Clubs International District 308-A2, was conferred the Outstanding District Award at the 108th Lions Clubs International Convention here.
The award is among Lions Clubs International’s highest honours for district leadership.
It is presented annually to districts worldwide that demonstrate excellence in three key areas: measurable community service, sustainable membership growth, and strong administrative governance.
With more than 1.4 million members serving in 210 countries and geographic areas, and over 700 districts worldwide, the award places recipients among the best in the global Lions community.
Winnie was the only recipient from Malaysia.
District 308-A2, which covers Brunei, Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan, was recognised for its performance in service reporting, membership development and leadership during the Lions fiscal year.
“This recognition does not belong to one person. It belongs to every Lion, Leo and volunteer in District 308-A2 who answered the call to serve,” said Winnie.
Winnie also highlighted the achievements of the Lions Club of Luyang ACE, which received the Silver Premier Club Award, as well as Lion Sunny Yeoh and Lion Yii Toh Ming, who received the Gold Hero Award.
During her term, the district spearheaded initiatives including cross-border charity tours, donations of medical supplies to hospitals, youth peace poster programmes and environmental projects in Borneo.
The district also hosted an official visit by international Lions leaders to Sabah earlier this year.
