SANDAKAN: A burst water main distribution pipe along Jalan Pei Ying caused a temporary disruption to the water supply for residents in the surrounding area.
Karamunting Community Development Leader Yap Hsiu Min responded promptly after receiving complaints from affected residents. He immediately visited the site to assess the situation and notified the Sabah Water Department to facilitate swift remedial action.
According to Yap, the Water Department had since deployed contractors to carry out emergency repair works. The repairs progressed smoothly, and the water supply was expected to be restored in stages on yesterday.
Yap also urged residents to promptly report incidents such as burst pipes, water seepage on roads, or damage to other public infrastructure to community development leaders or the relevant authorities. Timely reporting enables faster coordination, allowing the responsible agencies to respond efficiently and minimise the duration of disruptions.
He added that the Community Development Leader Unit will continue to serve as a point of contact between residents and government departments by assisting in conveying public concerns and monitoring follow-up actions. However, he stressed that matters involving public utilities and welfare must ultimately be handled by the respective authorities in accordance with established procedures.
Yap appealed for residents’ understanding and patience during the repair process, expressing hope that continued cooperation between the public and the authorities would help resolve such issues more effectively. – James Leong
