SANDAKAN: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) held a joint annual general meeting on Sunday at its Bandar Melrose office, drawing around 150 members from the Tanjong Papat, Elopura, Sekong, and Sungai Sibuga divisions. The gathering marked a unified push to re-engage the local electorate ahead of the coming parliamentary election.
The joint conference was chaired by LDP Vice President Chong Thien Ming, alongside Sekong Chairman Liow Ket Hiung and Sungai Sibuga Chairman Lam Jin Dak. Party President Datuk Chin Shu Phin attended as guest of honour, while Vice President Sim Fui served as conference speaker, with other top officials and youth/women leaders also present.
In his address, Chong stressed that every voter has the right to choose the best representative, reminding attendees that LDP had won the Sandakan parliamentary seat twice in the past. He emphasised that the party has never abandoned the constituency, maintaining a continuous grassroots presence and remaining connected with the people for decades.
Chong declared that the time is right for voters to give LDP-GRS another chance, citing the coalition’s experience and understanding of local issues. He pledged that, if given the mandate, LDP-GRS would focus on revitalising the local economy, upgrading healthcare services, and creating more jobs for the younger generation.
Meanwhile, Sekong Division Chairman Liow highlighted long-standing basic infrastructure woes, pointing to persistent water supply disruptions, unreliable electricity, and deteriorating road conditions as urgent priorities. He appealed to voters to seriously consider LDP-GRS, arguing that the coalition’s track record makes it the right choice to tackle these chronic problems.
Sungai Sibuga Chairman Lam expressed gratitude to the party president for his appointment as a Sandakan Municipal Council councillor, vowing to diligently handle public complaints and community matters. He reaffirmed that LDP-GRS would continue strengthening its grassroots outreach and rebuilding residents’ confidence through committed service.
The joint AGM proceeded smoothly and concluded around 11.30am, with leaders united in their message that LDP-GRS is prepared to be judged on its ideas, candidates, and ability to deliver meaningful change for Sandakan. – James Leong
