Residents put out flat fire at PPR Taman Muhibbah

SANDAKAN: A fire broke out at a third-floor residential unit at PPR Taman Muhibah, Batu 12, yesterday noon, but swift action by nearby residents managed to bring the blaze under control before the arrival of firefighters.
Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station officer-in-charge Jimmy Lagung stated that an emergency call was received via the NG999 hotline at 12.18 pm. A fire engine with 14 personnel was immediately despatched to the location, which is situated about 25 kilometres from the station.
Upon arrival at 12.49 pm, firemen found that the fire had already been extinguished by members of the public. The blaze, which originated in the kitchen of the affected apartment, caused an estimated 20% damage to the unit.
Jimmy confirmed that firefighters conducted a thorough inspection of the premises to rule out any lingering embers or potential hazards that could reignite the fire.
“Following our inspection, the area was declared safe. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported throughout the incident,” he added.
Jimmy said firefighting operation concluded at 12.55 pm. Policemen were also present at the scene to assist and secure the area. – James Leong
