Two houses hit by fires in Tawau, Beluran

TAWAU: Two houses were damaged in separate fires in Tawau and Beluran on Tuesday, with one wooden house completely destroyed.
In Tawau, firefighters were called to a wooden house along Jalan Banyan Drive, off Jalan Utara, at 12.59 pm.
A total of 15 firefighters, assisted by nine members of the Titingan Community Fire Team, battled the blaze, which also affected an air-conditioning condenser unit at a neighbouring house.
Operations commander PBK I Jerry Ibno said the fire was brought under control at 1.40pm. The operation ended at 2.56pm after firefighters conducted an overhaul and ensured the area was safe.
Police, Sabah Electricity and Civil Defence Force personnel also assisted.
Meanwhile, in Beluran, about 20 per cent of a house at PPR Pelatung, Taman Sungai Labuk, was damaged by fire, mainly the kitchen area.
The Beluran Fire and Rescue Station received the emergency call at 3.59pm and despatched nine firefighters and a fire engine to the scene.
Operations commander PPgB Nurazlan Shah Jamalludin said firefighters used a 200-foot hose line and one nozzle to extinguish the blaze, which was brought under control at 4.10pm.
The operation ended at 5.17pm after safety checks were completed.
No injuries or casualties were reported in either incident. – James Leong
