KOTA KINABALU: JCI Kota Kinabalu has called on its members to raise the bar in personal growth, organisational development, and community impact.
Its newly-installed President, Ng Kang Jie, said these areas align with the chapter’s theme, “Elevate”, which is not just about what they do, but who they become.
“I hope to lead all of us to think from a higher perspective and pursue greater goals, bringing visibility and impact to JCI Kota Kinabalu,” he said, during the JCI Kota Kinabalu Host 63rd Installation and Awards Banquet at Wisma Hakka here.
International delegates from the Philippines, Taiwan, and Singapore were also present to celebrate youth leadership and community achievements.
Deputy Youth and Sports Ministry Permanent Secretary (Youth Management), Mary Paul Dagul, said: “JCI Kota Kinabalu is not just a platform for youth to shine, but a vital force driving positive change in society.”
The government remains committed to supporting youth organisations in cultivating passionate, capable, and visionary young leaders for Sabah’s future, said Mary, who represented the Minister, Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin.
Outgoing President, Irene Chong, said that during her tenure, they had achieved several successes, including the award-winning Project H, the Women Empowerment workshop series, various training sessions, and international collaboration initiatives.
“This year, we faced challenges together and grew together. I saw our members evolve from observers to active contributors.
“I believe the strength of our chapter lies not only in its structure but in every member who chooses to show up and give their all,” she said.
Organising Chairperson, Soon Chun Kang, thanked the committee members, volunteers, and the unsung heroes who contributed behind the scenes.
A total of 14 prestigious awards were presented, including: Most Outstanding Community Project Award – Project H: Care for Children; Leadership Improvement Award – Public Speaking Workshop (Mandarin & English); Most Outstanding LO-to-LO Assistance Project Award – Project H; Best Fundraising Project – JCI Kota Kinabalu 62nd Installation and Awards Banquet; and The Membership Award – Public Speaking Workshop (Mandarin & English)
The others were Most Outstanding Youth Activity Award – Women Empowerment: Mind to Mind Series; Most Outstanding Board of Director – 2024 VP Vicki & Local Secretary Kang Jie; Most Outstanding Project Chairman – Winner: Snowy Chang; Merit: Vicki Wong; Most Outstanding Past President – 2021 Local President Chan Mei Hsing; Most Outstanding New Member Award – Evon Chong (Joined in 2024); The Outstanding Jaycees of the Year Award – Snowy Chang; and The Best Senator of the Year Award – 2017 Local President and JCI Senator Patrick Teo
The evening’s highlight featured a special appearance by Datuk Susan Wong, Managing Director of WSG Group and JCI Kota Kinabalu’s corporate sponsor, who graced the night with a heartfelt live performance, blending art and emotion into an unforgettable moment.
