SANDAKAN: The Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) organized a one-day political training camp here on Saturday, focusing on party strategies and key issues to be communicated to voters in the upcoming state election.
The programme held at a hotel, attended by 150 participants including leaders from the Tanjong Papat and Elopura CLCs, branch chairmen, and SAPP Sandakan Zone members, aimed to strengthen grassroots understanding of core Sabah rights issues such as MA63, 40% tax revenue entitlement, state autonomy, and the proposed Sabah IC.
Deputy President Datuk Edward Dagul officiated the event, which featured presentations by party leaders – Thomas Lau (Vice President) – MA63; Michael Puan – Autonomy and GRS’ 73-seat proposal; Yvonne Yong – Sabah IC initiative; Wong Yu Chin – Return of Labuan to Sabah; Shuaib Mutalib – Land reformation policies; Henley Liew – 35% parliamentary seat allocation for Sabah; Jamain Sarudin – Head of State and deputy ministerial roles.
“This is the first in a series of zone-level training camps as we prepare for the 17th Sabah State Election expected later this year,” said Thomas Lau on Saturday.
The next session was held in Lahad Datu yesterday, he added.
The programme underscores SAPP’s election readiness, with particular emphasis on educating members about Sabah’s constitutional rights and fiscal demands from the federal government, Lau said. – James Leong
