SANDAKAN: A crocodile was captured by the Sandakan Civil Defence Force (APM) after a resident spotted the reptile trapped under a bridge with its body tangled in ropes at Kampung Tinusa 2 water village early yesterday.
The incident occurred while the complainant was cleaning his boat behind his house. Concerned for his safety and that of other villagers, he immediately contacted the MERS 999 emergency line for assistance.
APM Sandakan received a call from the State APM Operations Control Centre (PKON) at 1.28 am on the incident. Eight personnel were despatched to the location and took 45 minutes to capture the 1.5-meter-long, 16 kg crocodile.
The team used ropes, a blanket, and two nooses to restrain the animal, first covering its eyes with the blanket before securing it.
No injuries or accidents were reported during the operation. The crocodile will be handed over to the Wildlife Department for further action. – James Leong
