Four vehicles involved in crash at Mile 5 Sandakan

SANDAKAN: Four vehicles were involved in a road accident at the traffic light junction in front of Taman Pertama, Mile 5 Jalan Utara on Friday.
The crash happened at about 11.20 am. The vehicles involved were a goods lorry travelling from Keningau to Sandakan, a double-cab pickup and a Proton Saga, all travelling in the same direction, while the fourth vehicle was a red Toyota coming from the opposite direction.
Preliminary information indicated that the lorry struck the right side of the double-cab, driven by an elderly man. The lorry driver, two attendants and the pickup driver escaped uninjured.
The lorry also reportedly hit the rear of a Proton Saga. The impact caused the Proton Saga to mount the road divider before veering into the opposite lane, where it collided with the oncoming red Toyota.
The Proton Saga driver sustained minor injuries. The Toyota was carrying five people — a man, a woman, a girl and two children.
The man and woman sustained minor injuries, while the girl suffered serious injuries. Two children in the vehicle were unharmed.
The girl was sent to hospital by Ministry of Health (MOH) ambulance for further treatment.
The emergency response involved the police, the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station, MOH ambulance team and the district Civil Defence Force (APM). – James Leong
