SANDAKAN: The Sabah Marine Police thwarted an attempt to smuggle subsidised cooking oil during a raid along the banks of the Seguntor River in Sibugal Besar, near here on August 3.
The 4:30 pm operation led to the detention of three individuals to assist in investigations. Authorities also confiscated a boat, a three-ton Isuzu lorry, and a substantial quantity of subsidised cooking oil from various brands.
The total value of the seized items is estimated at RM160,469. The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
Meanwhile, from January 1 to August 3, 2026, the Sabah Marine Police have recorded 95 cases under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, leading to 91 arrests and confiscations valued at over RM25 million.
Sabah Marine Police Commander ACP Ahmad Amri Abd Rahman said that the force will continue to intensify intelligence-gathering and enforcement operations to combat the leakage and smuggling of controlled subsidised goods, particularly those destined for overseas markets.
He affirmed that the Sabah Marine Police remain fully committed to eradicating such activities to protect the nation’s interests and revenue. – James Leong
