LABUAN: The future of swimming in Labuan looks bright as 15 young swimmers from Blue Dolphin Swim Club delivered an outstanding performance at the 16th Preppies Under-12 Swimming Championship, competing against more than 300 swimmers from 14 swim clubs across Sabah, Labuan and Miri.
The young Dolphins rose to the occasion, finishing among the top four clubs in the overall medal standings, with an impressive haul of 12 gold, 13 silver and six bronze medals, including three meet records.
Yet, beyond the impressive medal tally, perhaps the greatest achievement was seen on the timing board, almost every Blue Dolphin swimmer recorded significant improvements in their personal best (PB) times.
Leading the Blue Dolphin charge was Skye Teo, who continued an extraordinary five-year journey at the Preppies Swimming Championship by winning the Boys’ 12 Best Boy Award for the fifth consecutive year.
Skye Teo delivered an exceptional performance, winning nine individual gold medals, including one meet record, together with two relay gold medals, both in meet-record performances, and one relay silver.
Edward Ngok, competing in the Boys’ 11 category, earned seven silver and one bronze medal, while contributing to two relay gold medals, both in meet-record performances, and one relay silver.
Nizam Abd Majid, competing in Boys’ 10, secured two silver medals, while Sheng Feng Tiong, in Boys’ 11, claimed one silver and two bronze medals. Sheng Feng also made a valuable contribution to the relay teams, helping secure two gold medals, both in meet-record performances.
In Boys’ 9, Anish Ruban Raj added a bronze medal, while Andrew Ng, competing in Boys’ 12, played a valuable role in the relay events, helping his team secure two gold medals, both in meet-record times.
The younger swimmers aged eight and nine also demonstrated tremendous promise and fighting spirit. Magdalena Kee, Roshin Ooi, Pearl Neil and Eva Teo contributed strongly to their relay teams, securing gold and silver medals in the 4x25m Medley Relay and the 4x25m Freestyle Relay against strong competition.
Joyce Jeremy and Roxanne Ooi also made valuable contributions, adding relay silver medals to Blue Dolphin’s medal tally.
